Blended Strawberry Margaritas garnished with lime wheels and a green straw with glasses in background.

These Blended Strawberry Margaritas are the perfect cocktail to serve on a warm afternoon or summer evening. After the first sip, this deliciously sweet and salty libation will have you coming back for more. This cocktail recipe uses only five ingredients, so why not give it a try - especially during strawberry season!

Using fresh strawberries gives our cocktail a natural sweetness that is lacking in other recipes using frozen berries. This is a well balanced blended margarita that is not overly sweet. This drink is equally appealing to those who love sweet cocktails and to those who prefer drinks without sweetness! BLENDED STRAWBERRY MARGARITAS

BLENDED STRAWBERRY MARGARITAS

These Blended Strawberry Margaritas are the perfect cocktail to serve on a warm afternoon or evening. This is a deliciously sweet and salty libation that is well balanced, and will have you coming back for more!
Prep Time: 15 MinTotal Time: 15 Min

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Hull and halve strawberries, and set aside.
  2. For the garnish, slice 1 lime into 4 wheels (keep the ends for Step 3), then cut a slit from the center to one end of each lime (to sit on the edge of the glass as a garnish). Using a juicer, squeeze lime juice (about 6 limes), and set garnish and juice aside.
  3. Rub the rims of four 12 ounce rocks glasses with the ends of the cut lime. Then dip the wet rim of each glass into the margarita salt (see Note #1), and tap the glass to remove any excess. Set all four glasses aside.
  4. Toss hulled strawberries into a high-speed blender (see Note #2), and add lime juice, blanco Tequila, agave nectar, Cointreau liqueur, and ice cubes. Cover tightly, blend until combined and slushy (about 15 to 30 seconds - see Note #3).
  5. Pour into prepared cocktail glasses, garnish each glass with a lime wheel, and a straw if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  1. We prefer using this margarita salt that comes in its own container. If you cannot find margarita salt, spread sea salt flakes on a plate, and dip the wet rims into the salt.
  2. Both the NutriBullet high speed blender, and the Vitamix high-speed blender work extremely well for this recipe.
  3. Blending time will vary depending on your type of high speed blender. If you don’t want any foam floating on the top of your cocktail, let mixture rest in the blender for 1 to 2 minutes, then skim off foam with a large spoon. Stir mixture to combine any liquids that have settled, and continue with Step 5.
  4. Recipe makes four 12 ounce servings (or 5-6 smaller servings).

Step by Step Instructions

PREPARATION

Organize all your tools and ingredients before you begin. Getting all your ingredients in one place at the beginning will shorten your prep time.

STEP 1

Hull and halve 16 ounces fresh organic strawberries, and set aside.

STEP 2

For the garnish, slice 1 lime into 4 wheels (keep the ends for Step 3), then cut a slit from the center to one end of each lime wheel (to sit on the edge of the glass as a garnish). Using a juicer, squeeze ⅔ cup fresh lime juice (about 6 limes), and set garnish and juice aside.

STEP 3

Using the ends of the lime cut for the garnish (or a lime wedge), rub the rims of four 12 ounce rocks glasses. Then dip the wet rim of each glass into margarita salt (see Note below), and tap the glass to remove any excess. Set all four glasses aside.

Note: We prefer using this margarita salt that comes in its own container. If you cannot find margarita salt, spread sea salt flakes on a plate, and dip the wet rims into the salt.

STEP 4a

To a high-speed blender (see Note below), add hulled strawberries, lime juice, 1 cup blanco Tequila, ⅓ cup agave nectar, and ¼ cup Cointreau liqueur.

Note: Both the NutriBullet high speed blender, and the Vitamix high-speed blender work extremely well for this recipe.

STEP 4b

Add 4 cups ice cubes, cover tightly, and blend until combined and slushy (about 15 to 30 seconds - see Note below).

Note: Blending time will vary depending on your type of high speed blender. If you don’t want any foam floating on the top of your cocktail, let mixture rest in the blender for 1 to 2 minutes, then skim off foam with a large spoon. Stir mixture to combine any liquids that have settled, and continue with Step 5.

Pouring two Blended Strawberry Margaritas into rocks glasses that are garnished with a lime wheel and margarita salt. Two glasses in background are ready to serve.

STEP 5

Pour into four prepared cocktail glasses, garnish each glass with a lime wheel, and a straw if desired.

A Definite Recipe During Strawberry Season!

Although I tend to not like sweet or blended cocktails, sometimes I just want something different and refreshing. During strawberry season this year, I had an overabundance of ripe strawberries and decided on making a strawberry cocktail.

Much to my surprise, this delicious libation turned out to be a well balanced cocktail that is not too sweet. This is a great afternoon drink on a warm afternoon or summer evening, even for those (like me) that don’t like their cocktails on the super sweet side.

Most blended or frozen margarita recipes use frozen strawberries, which greatly impacts the flavor. The difference with our recipe is that we used fresh organic strawberries, fresh squeezed lime juice, and agave nectar. We also used a high quality (and highly rated) Blanco Tequila by El Padrino, as well as Cointreau liqueur instead of triple sec. The combination of these five ingredients makes this drink a beautiful sipping cocktail with a lovely finish that is super refreshing and not cloyingly sweet.

How do you ensure the best results from our recipe?

Our 5 tips to making great Blended Strawberry Margaritas:

  1. Use high quality ingredients, including fresh organic produce, and great quality liquor.

  2. You can also use your favorite Tequila, but we recommend using a high quality Tequila, like Blanco Tequila by El Padrino

  3. Blanco Tequila is best for this recipe as the smokiness and intensity from reposado or añejo Tequilas can overpower your drink and change the flavor of this refreshing cocktail.

  4. Use a high-speed blender to get a smoother texture in seconds. Both the NutriBullet high speed blender, and the Vitamix high-speed blender work extremely well for this recipe.

  5. If you want to get fancy and don’t like foam on the top of your cocktail, just let the mixture rest in the blender for 1 to 2 minutes after blending, then skim off foam with a large spoon. Stir mixture to combine any liquids that have settled, and continue with Step 5.

Have any dietary preferences that won’t quite work with our recipe? It’s time to customize and Pimp Our Recipe.

Pimp Our Recipe:

  • Make it Spicy: We recommend making this cocktail as directed, but if you really want that sweet and spicy flavor, try adding a fresh hot pepper. Just destem and remove seeds from 1 fresh jalapeño, and drop it into the blender with the other ingredients. Blend as directed. For an even spicier heat, leave some of the seeds in, or replace the fresh jalapeño with a serrano pepper instead!

  • Make it Sweeter: Add up to ½ cup of agave nectar for an extra sweet cocktail.

  • Make it Less Sweet: Depending on the sweetness of your fresh strawberries, you can increase or decrease the amount of agave nectar, as needed. If your strawberries are super sweet, use only ¼ cup of agave nectar instead.

  • Don’t Have Fresh Strawberries? Although we prefer fresh organic strawberries for this recipe, you can use frozen. Just use the same quantity (16 ounces) of frozen strawberries, and halve them (or quarter them if they are large). You can choose to use ½ cup to 1 cup of ice cubes for a thinner, more drinkable blended margarita.

  • Prefer a Frozen Margarita? If you prefer the texture of a scoopable frozen margarita, then it’s an easy fix. The drink will be much sweeter and stronger without ice, but still delicious. Just omit the ice cubes, but use the same quantity (16 ounces) of frozen strawberries, and halve them (or quarter them if they are large). Also, because you are using no ice in the frozen version, keep in mind that it will yield less volume and fewer servings (about three or four 8 ounce cocktails). Make sure to serve with a spoon, as the mixture will likely be too thick to drink through a straw!
