This is not your average lemonade!
Our sparkling lemonade spritzer is a fresh alternative to your typical lemonade. It has all the flavor, has no refined sugar, and is refreshingly fizzy. It’s the perfect summertime drink for everyone in the family to enjoy!
I have such fond memories of watching my grandmother make fresh lemonade in her kitchen during the summer months. Every week, she would pick a bunch of lemons from her tree in the backyard and make a big pitcher of lemonade for us to enjoy. The lemons seemed to be the size of a football back then, but then again I was only 4 years old! I still remember her taking heaping cups of sugar and adding it to the pitcher. I was young, so what did I care about the mountains of sugar I was ingesting?!
Unlike many juices which are high in sugar and very caloric, this lemonade spritzer is low in calories and a delicious option as a thirst-quenching beverage. This tasty spritzer has a hint of lemon coupled with just enough sweetness to take out that sour pucker. Standard lemonades are wonderful, but I often find they have an overly sweet aftertaste that lingers on my palate - then minutes later, you experience that sugar high and low that hits you.
In the last two decades, I’ve become more mindful about using more wholesome ingredients and less sugar in my recipes. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my desserts and will never stop baking or eating them. I don’t deny myself of any type of food, but I tend to use moderation in my consumption of rich foods, including drinks, cocktails, and desserts.
This healthy eating philosophy inspired us to create our Sparkling Lemonade Spritzer. In this fizzy mocktail recipe, we used a small amount of agave and sparkling water to perk up this traditional summer time beverage. As a healthy alternative to sodas and regular sugar-filled lemonades, it’s a great option for kids. It’s also so easy to make that it’s even in our kid-friendly category!
Aside from the great taste, the benefit is that agave syrup is much sweeter than refined sugar, so you can use less in your drinks and recipes. Agave syrup is higher in sugar content than regular sugar. However, agave has a low-glycemic index compared to sugar or honey, which helps reduce the effects of blood sugar and insulin spikes in your body when consuming. Here are some easy tricks to making this sparkling lemonade spritzer.
Our 4 tips to making a yummy sparkling lemonade spritzer:
To avoid diluting your drink and to add a special touch, use lemonade ice cubes as a replacement for regular ice cubes. Just make extra lemonade in advance by using flat filtered water and lemon, then pour into an ice cube tray and freeze.
Another trick is to use frozen lemon slices, which will help keep your drink extra cold. Visit our Tips & Tricks page to review our quick how to video (TIP #2 - How to Freeze Lemons).
Chill your sparkling water in the refrigerator.
Make ahead recipe for a crowd: Just combine agave syrup and lemon juice in the bottom of a pitcher, add 1 ounce of filtered, non-carbonated water per serving, stir well, cover, and refrigerate. When ready to serve, just stir well, and pour equal amounts into glasses, add ice, and top off with sparkling water.
